Le gendarme se marie (1968, France)

The thief has changed his clothes Another film about the inept policemen of St Tropez. Cruchot, the local sergeant, played by Louis de Funès, is wooing an elegant widow. He decides to take dancing lessons to improve his chances. Meanwhile a couple of his gendarmes are looking round the market for a known criminal. They are hot on his trail, and he runs through a clothes street market and changes quickly; they are baffled.

Still trying to make good his escape, the thief goes into the dancing school where Cruchot is learning to dance, in plain clothes. To cover his tracks, the thief takes Cruchot as his partner. The other policemen burst in and Cruchot and the thief run for it together, in Cruchot's case to avoid the embarrassment of his men seeing him there.
