Fiddlers Three (1944, UK)

Tommy Trinder performs as Señorita Alvarez
A British wartime comedy; during a visit to Stonehenge, there is a terrific thunderstorm, and the electric energy causes Tommy (Tommy Trinder) and the Professor (Sonnie Hale) to be transported back to ancient Rome. The Emperor Nero is reviewing the virgins at his disposal, and the two men have dressed as girls for cover. Nero demands a dance routine to be performed by Trinder who is presenting himself as Señorita Alvarez (from Brazil, where the nuts come from, an obvious reference to the female impersonation in the play "Charlie's Aunt"). Trinder does a Carmen Miranda routine.

Sonnie Hale as a vestal virgin
Sonnie Hale gets chosen by Nero as his favoured vestal virgin; he doesn't seem to be enthusiastic about it.

The film has also been released as While Nero Fiddled.
