Fidelio (Several versions of the opera)

Leonora pretending to be Fidelio
Beethoven's only opera was "Fidelio", with the uplifting and heroic music you expect, but without much of a plot. Leonora's husband has been incarcerated in a Spanish prison, and she has disguised herself as a man, Fidelio, and obtained work as a prison guard to try to find him.

The picture is a still of Karita Mattila in the role in the 2002 version.
