Funeral Parade of Roses (1969, Japan)

Happy with the boyfriend A film based on the story of Eddie, a pretty full time transvestite who works as a nightclub hostess. At first everything seems to be happy and pleasurable, but as the film progresses it becomes more claustrophobic and dark.

Do you want to be a transsexual? As the film moves on, there is an interview to camera, along the lines of, "Why do you want to be a queen?" and "Are you going to be a transsexual?" and the answers are cheerfully given; no in the latter case.

However we start to see images from childhood which evidently was not at all happy, and things degenerate as time goes on, ending with a violent and bloody unhappy ending.

It's a dark "art" film shot in glorious black-and-white; don't expect fun entertainment.

The original title is Bara no soretsu, and it has also been released as Funeral Procession of Roses and Parade of Roses.
