Funeral Parade of Roses (1969, Japan)

A film based on the story of Eddie, a pretty full time transvestite who works as a nightclub hostess. At first everything seems to be happy and pleasurable, but as the film progresses it becomes more claustrophobic and dark.

As the film moves on, there is an interview to camera, along the lines of, "Why do you want to be a queen?" and "Are you going to be a transsexual?" and the answers are cheerfully given; no in the latter case.

However we start to see images from childhood which evidently was not at all happy, and things degenerate as time goes on, ending with a violent and bloody unhappy ending.

It's a dark "art" film shot in glorious black-and-white; don't expect fun entertainment.

The original title is Bara no soretsu, and it has also been released as Funeral Procession of Roses and Parade of Roses.
