The cliche is the " Son of ... " film; well this one is the daughter of one of the Three Musketeers. I feared that it would be a revisionist fantasy, showing that young women could be better at being blokish than blokes could, but in fact the film is more mature than that.
Eloise is in a convent when an escaped prisoner seeks sanctuary there; when soldiers arrive to reclaim him, the Mother Superior is killed in the turmoil, and Eloise vows to avenge matters. She dresses as a boy to gain intelligence, but the remainder of the film is done in female mode again.
