Erik the Viking (1989, UK)

Jennifer, the Viking
A post-Monty Python style film about Viking adventures. It starts off very well, with the Python twisted approach to apparently conventional situations, but it rather runs out of steam in trying to sustain a feature film.

I particularly liked the mother and father of one of the departing Vikings telling him all the things that fond mothers and fathers tell their departing sons in modern day life.

There is a scene early on where the Vikings are pillaging a village. One of the characters is called "Jennifer the Viking". He is not entirely committed to the raping part of the job description, and would prefer to talk to a woman about his feelings.

There was an earlier (1965) version of the film, made in Italy (and originally titled Erik, il Vichingo), covering pretty much the same ground, but without the humour.
