Les Enfants du Siècle (1999, France)

George Sand in male attire
The story of the intertwined lives of two French literary greats. One of them was the woman writer George Sand, who adopted a masculine appearance and habits. As an early feminist, she resented the restrictions that society in the eighteenth century placed upon women's freedom.

The feeling of the period is well deployed in this film, and it's a good costume drama.
