Arif Zakaria plays the part of a eunuch; in an interview about his role in another film, Dance Like A Man, he was asked, "Were you already married when you played a eunuch in Darmiyaan?"
No. I had a girlfriend at that point of time. She was sceptical about the reactions of the audience. The industry people liked my work, but they said they didn't know where to slot me as an actor. If a woman plays a cop and dons a male garb in a movie, it will be dubbed as a heroic effort. But the moment a male actor dresses up as a woman, or does one of these gender-bender roles, there is a problem. Perhaps, in a small way, there was a stigma attached to the role.
The title translates to "In Between".
