The Dark Hour (1936)

The criminal in drag is brought in A very dated murder mystery, with two detectives co-operating on solving it so as to be able to tell us, the audience, what is going on. The dialogue was evidently written without much regard to how people really speak.

Towards the end of the film, the supposed murderer is brought in, dressed in the long, dark dress we have already heard about as being the disguise ... presumed until now to be worn by one of the female staff in the house. But it's Charles, played by Hobart Bosworth.

But the dress is dark and the background is dark, and there is no attempt at femininity anyway, so it is not very satisfactory.
