Change moi ma vie (2001, France)

Sami
A thoughtful and sympathetic film; a young woman staggers through the streets of Paris before collapsing unconscious in a park. No one stops for her, except for Sami (Roschdy Zem), an Algerian man -- an outsider in Paris -- jogging by. He gets an ambulance for her.

Sami's friends gather round
Nina (Fanny Ardent), the fallen pedestrian, goes out looking for her Sami, and finds her saviour dressed as a drag queen, hustling on a street corner. Drag queen or not, Nina falls in love with him. One day at a time, the two fallen angels help each other pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.

The film makers spent some time with Algerian tranvestites working on the Boulevard Bessières in Paris. Sami's character was inspired by an actual person.

The English title is Change My Life.
