A Carry On film set in the time immediately after Trafalgar; Bernard Cribbins is a midshipman on his way to join his ship. He spends a little time in a tavern with Sally, (Juliet Mills) but she robs him of his clothes. His only course is to put her nightie on, but by a stroke of bad luck he is immediately caught by the press gang and taken to the ship he was going to join anyway; but as a pressed man, his rank counts for nothing. Sally is already there on board impersonating him; she needs to get to Spain quickly and this was the way to do it.
There is a long scene with the Captain, in which Cribbins and Sally are both claiming to be "Midshipman Poopdecker".
This must have been a remarkably expensive film by Carry On standards, with plenty of marine filming; but very few of the regular actors.
The title is odd, and may be explained by the great success of the comedy I'm All Right Jack in 1959, and of course "Jack Tar", slang for a naval seaman. This film was also known as Carry On Sailor, and Carry on Venus.
