Carry On Columbus (1992, UK)

Sara Crowe with a beard A film the purists would say isn't a true Carry On because the production team had changed completely.

In fact this was a brave attempt to modernise the traditional formula, which had become rather stale, always harking back to the old jokes and setups. The script loses its punch a bit in the second half, but it's a good effort.

As Columbus was trying to discover the New World, a girl Fatima, played by Sara Crowe, (the Philadelphia Cheese girl in UK television advertising) is disguised as a cabin boy, with a beard.
