An interesting documentary on gay depictions in film, with talking head interviews and lots of clips.
The historical aspect is well explored, and it's interesting to observe the different ways over time, that transgender enters into the larger area of gay themes. Excellent history, but the film doesn't set out to be a comprehensive review of the genre, I think.
Whatever, the following transgender-relevant films have relevant sequences shown: Queen Christina (F to M); Marlene Dietrich in Morocco, I think (F to M); The Killing of Sister George (F to M; brief); Bringing Up Baby; A Woman (brief); Behind the Scenes; Myrt and Marge (allusions); Call Her Savage; Morocco (F to M); Calamity Jane (F to M); Johnny Guitar (F to M); Some Like it Hot; Car Wash; Freebie and the Bean; Poison (brief); The Crying Game (brief); Silence of the Lambs (brief); La Cage aux Folles (brief); Hairspray (brief).
None of the new material in the film is transgender, although Quentin Crisp is pretty much borderline.
The German title is Gefangen in der Traumfabrik .
