A true-to-life biography made for television. Whether it really is authentic we don't know, but this version is believable enough, and includes Calamity having a baby. The film is almost unknown, no doubt overshadowed by the completely different Doris Day production. Here Calamity Jane is well played by Jane Alexander.
As in the other version, she isn't trying to pass as a man, merely wearing male clothing for practicality, and any transsexual or lesbian dimension is not explored.
