Not considered one of Woody allen's better works, this film piles surreal jokes on top of one another without ensuring that they are actually funny.
Allen conducts his own defence in a serious court case; one of the witnesses is J Edgar Hoover, played as a female by Dorothi Fox.
Having been sworn in as J Edgar Hoover, occupation "Head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation", he is then asked "Will you tell the court why you are dressed like this?" and answers "I have many enemies; and I rarely go out unless I am in disguise." The lawyer then continues the examination with, "Mr Hoover ..."
It is rumoured that Hoover was a crossdresser and this is an allusion to that story.
Also filmed was this scene where Woody Allen is in drag as a Spanish woman, but unfortunately this was cut and never made the final film.
