If the 1967 version was a rarefied form of British humour, it was well remade in 2000, with Liz Hurley most excellently playing a witty and sexy female devil, and Brendan Fraser as Elliot Richards.
Elliot gets six wishes, and he uses these to try to win his girl; but for every wish the devil cheats a little and provides him with something that is not quite what he had in mind.
Although Cook and Moore are credited with the script, this is merely a copyright tribute for the original story, and the screenplay is completely new, and much funnier and more accurate.
One of Elliot's wishes is to be a basketball player to get his girl, and Hurley says, "OK, let's say Dennis Rodman" and turns him briefly into a Rodman lookalike. "Only joking". Rodman is a major basketball player in the US, and he dresses in drag openly.
Several actors play different parts in the various wish scenarios, and Fraser himself also plays a nun, "Mary", although this is not credited in the actual film titles.
