Angelo works for poor wages in a jeweller's workshop, and supports his parents and family. But in the aftermath of a police raid on gay activity in public, he meets up with Mikhailis, a good-looking and muscular sailor.
Things develop, but in a rather jerky plot, Angelo then departs for army service. When he returns, Mikhailis is still there, but now takes a more demanding stance. In particular, they need some money, so the best way forward, Mikhailis has decided, is for Angelos to turn transvestite prostitute. The second half of the film follows this development.
The film is widely known in Greece, but the exploitative nature of the relationship, and Angelo's meek acceptance of its inevitability, are unfamiliar in the west.
During Angelo's hooker phase, there is plenty of time devoted to street scenes, with his, ahem, co-workers much in evidence.
The English-language title is Angel, not to be confused with the US film of the same name, also involving a hooker.
