Ataque Verbal is a drama in which fourteen characters act out a sequence of sketches, sometimes being pitted against one another.
In Ataque no 1, Teo and Pepa are a man and a woman in their thirties; they are standing on a rocky cliff overlooking a spectacularly beautiful sea shore. Teo is a scriptwriter; he asks Pepa when was her most emotional moment when talking to someone. The conversation continues amicably, but eventually turns suddenly antagonistic, and Pepa walks off angrily.
In Ataque no 2, Jorge is a recently divorced manager who is moving into a vacant apartment. But the water company have not arranged the water connection as they promised only a few days ago. He calls to complain, and a very pleasant woman called Laura deals with him, but she can only record his complaint. They chat for much longer than is usual, and she ends by admitting that a long time ago they were lovers.
In Ataque no 3, Ángel is a man who is recovering from a liver transplant. Mercedes is the widow of the donor, a soldier who died on active service. In despair at the loss of her husband, she seeks consolation in visiting Ángel. But he too is anxious: he knows that her husband had a lover, and he thinks that the fact will do nothing to help her get over her loss. In fact she soon becomes angry and shouts at him, getting more and more upset, and eventually she drives off in a huff.
Ataque no 4 is subtitled "Tú ahora dices que eres bisexual porque le has tocado las tetas a la Virgi" ("Now you are saying that you're bisexual because you have felt Virgi's breasts."
Benito and Jacinto are two boy-scout leaders who are about to sleep together in a tent somewhere in the country. Before they go to sleep, they chat about the various teenagers whom they are looking after this Spring: a boy with immense strength, an extremely gifted girl and a seventeen year old transsexual.
In Ataque no 5, Virgi is a rather plump sixteen year old girl. She has suffered a minor accident, when a car ran over her, and she keeps her body bandaged, saying that the crash caused her to be dragged along the asphalt, tearing all the skin from her body. We see her in bed at home, and a friend, Susi, rather stuck up and a gossip, comes to visit her. At first it looks as if her motivation for the visit was merely politeness, but little by little Susi's true reason emerges. She has heard that Virgi is not really recovering from an accident, but that she has shut herself away here to conceal the fact that she is pregnant.
In Ataque no 6, Rosario and Milagros are two female road sweepers who found a live baby that had been abandoned in a waste bin. After their initial surprise, they became resentful of one another, but then they laugh as they speculate about whose the baby is.
Elke is a lesbian who has returned to Cuba to find Cari again; Cari is a beautiful black woman whom she met two years previously. Her search was successful and we see them sharing a bath and caressing one another, as they tell each other everything that has happened. Each tries to outdo the other in recounting interesting events. Elke is a writer, as well as doing other things that she keeps to herself; but she doesn't know that the real surprise is going to be sprung on her by Cari.
The film has the alternative title of Verbal Attack.
