A gentle study of the reaction of a conservative community in remote rural Sweden, when a bohemian couple come into their midst. Erik Zander is an eccentric old man who lives alone, but he owns a large mansion -- Angel Farm -- and a lot of valuable forest lands. When he dies suddenly in an accident, Axel Flogfält is certain that the inheritance he has long promised himself will now come his way.
In fact the old man has left everythign to his long-lost grand-daughter, Fanny Zander (played by the delicious Helena Bergström). It's bad enough for the narrow-minded members of the community when she arrives in bikers' leather gear on the back of a motor bike. But she comes with a bohemian biker called Zac (Ricard Wolff) who lives with her, but, gasp, is not married to her. There is worse to come: they are both part of a touring theatre group; it does not perform classical plays, but usually Zac performs dressed as a woman.
Opinions divide in the village ... not everyone hates the newcomers, and even the village minister warms to Fanny despite himself. There's an interesting twist toward the end too.
We only see the stage drag act very briefly, late in the film.
This film is excellent entertainment with beautiful photography and is highly recommended. The English language version is House of Angels, a neat pun on the name of the mansion, and the village people's attitude.
