Acropol (1995, Greece)

On stage at the Acropol The Akropol theatre was a famous revue theatre in Athens. The manager, called the Prince (Stavros Paravas), has just fired his leading lady (Olga Damani) for hitting the bottle too much. He urgently needs a replacement for the principal roles and in desperation he chooses Lakis Loizos (Lefteris Voyatzis). Loizos was a child star who did comic female impersonation numbers.

Bit of a thick waist though Lakis has retired from acting and holds considerable resentment for the theatrical life, but he is coaxed out of retirement and agrees to take the leading lady's roles. His act is a considerable success, which doesn't please all the other artistes. The tensions collide in a show on the last night of the winter season, and the events on stage are nothing like what the audience had paid to see.

The musical numbers form a large part of the screenplay, and it's an entertaining film, although it was a commercial disappointment.
